Shelby Lum is video journalist at the Associated Press on the health and science global beat team. Her short documentary storytelling has focused on technology in medicine, education, narrative features and more. Prior to joining the Associated Press she was a video journalist at the Boston Globe and the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

Her reporting has taken viewers inside the operating room of a pivotal xenotransplant experiment, to the rangelands of Mongolia.

She is the winner of eight New England Emmys, and was named best multimedia portfolio in NPPA’s 2023 Best of Photojournalism competition. She was on the team that won the Toner Prize for Excellence in Political Reporting in 2020. In 2021 she was on the team that won the the National Murrow Award for hard news, as well as in 2020 the National Murrow Award for feature reporting.
